The Style Evolution of Pharrell

The Style Evolution of Pharrell

April 07, 2022

Recently, one of the most established producers, artists and fashion pioneers who has graced every inch of street culture, has turned 49. From his stylings of Streetwear to High Luxury garments, this man has left no stone in fashion unturned. His collaborative ventures with brands such as Bape, Uniqlo, Louis Vuitton and Chanel to his own branded endeavors like Billionaire Boys Club, Human Race, and Ice Cream have influenced nearly all his peers and has left fans like us gazing in awe, waiting in excitement for his next project. To celebrate this auspicious occasion we look back at the style evolution of the coolest man in fashion.

This is Pharrell.

Pharrell wears an Element Skateboarding brand graphic tee with his signature N.E.R.D. trucker hat, a rare 2006 release Bape 'Pysche' Camo Zip Up and a Billionaire Boys Club x Ice Cream Crewneck sweater. Dressed on top, he wears his Jacob & Co Diamond N.E.R.D and Billionaire Boys Club chains.

First Act

In his early years, Pharrell’s ties to skateboarding earned him his most iconic nickname; ‘Skateboard P.’ Donning brands such as Independent, Girl, Element, Spitfire and many more, Pharrell's street style was composed of simple graphic tees and his signature N.E.R.D trucker hat. After linking at his studio in Shinjuku, Pharrell’s longtime friend and Bape founder, ‘Nigo’ introduced the artist to his Japan based streetwear brand. From that point onwards the streetwear empire of ‘Billionaire Boys Club’ began to rise. Whether it was a Bape Camo Hoodie, a ‘Billionaire Boys Club’ tee or his signature Ice Cream x Reebok ‘Boardflip’ Skateboarding Shoes, Pharrell’s fits have become a nostalgic memory within streetwear culture.

Pharrell wears his iconic Vivienne Westwood 'Buffalo Hat' paired with a bright red adidas track jacket. He also wears a Polo Ralph Lauren puffer vest overtop a Billionaire Boys Club x Ice Cream graphic tee.

Second Act

Channeling his inner Kurt Cobain and John Lennon, Pharrell entered his rebirth from his highly popular streetwear influenced fashion into a desire for statement pieces from luxury brands such as Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Kapital, Goyard, Thom Browne, Maison Margiela and Vivienne Westwood. Easily one of the most iconic fashion statements made recently, Pharrell’s ‘Buffalo Hat’ drew the most eyes and eventually cemented his iconic fit at the 2014 Grammy Awards where he performed with ‘Daft Punk’. After decades of pioneering within the fashion industry, his journey took him towards a more comfortable aesthetic.

Pharrell wears a Human Made 'Girls Don't Cry' hoodie, a Cactus Plant Flea Market Cap and an exclusive Chanel x Pharrell tee and bucket hat.

Third Act

Reclaiming his throne within the fashion hierarchy, Pharrell’s most recent looks dressed with new brands such as Cactus Plant Flea Market, Chanel, Human Made, Kenzo and his self made Human Race brand have shown how versatile his style has become. His most recent collaborations with adidas on sneaker models like the Superstar, NMD and Stan Smith have become some of the brand's most popular releases. Bridging the success of his own collaborations with adidas, Pharrell has created a successful clothing brand as well as his own skincare line under the label. As of recent, Pharrell has stepped away from his involvement in fashion production. His new style of avant garde and athleisure pieces provides a unique and refreshing look for an already well established fashion mogul.

What do you think his style will look like in the future?
